HOMECOMING 1982 Its autumn now in Broughton The harvest has begun, Home-coming now for 3 full days With parades and lots of fun. The business street is silent now You won't hear the old school bell, But the spirit of this little town is still alive and well. Allen's store is down & gone With the poultry house behind, But if you lived in Broughton You'll see it in your mind. You'll remember all the grocery stores And where Drapers shoe shop stood, When Sheridan swung his heavy sledge, And where Richardson worked with wood. A special people grew up here They may leave to work or roam, But once they live in Broughton They will always call it home. John L.Gwaltney |
MY WORLD When I awoke this morning I saw the golden sun. God was still up in his heaven And a new day had begun. The sun beams bathed the landscape And seeped in among the trees. The song birds all were singing And I heard the humming bees. The hill side flowers were blooming, Their petals crisp and bright, All rested from the last hot day By the long damp summer night. The lawn grass stood erect and green In the early morning shade, And a million shining dew drops Clung to every single blade. I looked up at the deep blue sky And far as the eye could see, And I stood in awe and wondered Why this all was made for me! John L.Gwaltney |
