June Meeting 1890

Unity church met Saturday before the first Lord’s day in June at 2 PM. In conference

Servises [sic] conducted by moderator. First visiting brothers were invited to seats and council with us, 2nd Opened the doors for reception of members (none) [sic]  3rd Called for references and none. 4th New business On motion and sec, that Bro. A. Helms be appointed as a committee to see some lumber dealers and to find out how and or what terms lumber can be had to build a church house at Unity.

Unity Baptist Church met in conference Saturday before the 1st Sunday in July 1890. After services by moderation visiting members of sister churches were invited to seats and council. Opened the doors for the reception of members. Called reference, none.

New business and (one?) motion and second, the church elect delegates to represent us in the association, and elected Bros. P.H. (Hall?), Walace [sic] Flannigan and John S. Neighbors, also Bro. A. (Helon?) and Sister O’Neal as alternate

Unity Church met in conference sat, before the 2nd (Sec) Sunday in Nov. 1890, 1st  (open scribbled through) Invited visiting brothers and sisters of sister churches to seats and council with us. 2nd Opened the doors for the reception of members, (none) [sic]

3rd New business: Minutes of a series of meeting read and approved being as follows: “Minutes of Unity (Unity scribbled through) a special meeting held by the Unity Baptis [sic] church of Hamilton Co. Ill, Commencing on (nigh?) Oct 12 A.D. 1890 and continuing with some intermissions till Sunday Oct. 20 1890, During which time, The doors were opened several times and F. M. Hall appointed C.C. Pro tem

by experience, at several (several scribbled out) different times following persons were received in the Church. Bro. David A. (Prince?) Sis, Druclla [sic]Culpepper, Charity Flannigan, (Connie or Corinne) Flannigan, Sarah E. Hall, Anice Hall, Frances (Hall or Hale), Josephine Smith, Fanny (Hale or Hall), Selesta McGill and Harriett Davis.

On Sunday Oct 20 Bro David A. Prince & Sister Drusilla Culpepper, Charity Flannigan, Connie Flannigan, Frances Hall, Fanny Hale & Harriett Daviss, were Baptised into full fellowship with the church, G. T. Mathis Mod, T. M. Hall C. Clk. Protem”, Motion & Sic, that the C. Clk present the rules of (deco?) as printed in Ch. Book, And be acted out by next regular meeting

Also H.C. Pemberton for unchristian conduct and making use of profane language and disrespectful about the church.

Sept 1891

Unity church met in conference Saturday before the 2 Sunday in Sept 1891. After Devine servises proceed to business of church. Clerk being absent Bro W.C. Craddock was appointed pro tem. No minutes of last meeting to read.

Motion & Sec that Bro Marion Russell be relieved of the duties of deacon (self request)

Motion & Sec that a deacon be elected and elected Bro A. J. Southers. Motion & Sec That the church call a presbytery to convene at next regular meeting for the purpose of ordaining Bro Marion Russell to the ministry and Bro. Southers to deacon. Motion & Sec. Elder W. B. Rhodes and Blackman and the deacons of New Salem, Long Branch and Hickory Hill be called to contribute Said presbytery.

Motion and Sec That the Moderator appoint A. Helms, J. Duncan, & A. J. Southers delegates to the Saline County association.

Motion That the clerk prepare a letter asking the admission to Said Asso.

Motion & Sec That the church donate the width of the grave yard as now to extend on east to the east line of church house ground for public cemetery. That a deed be executed by the proper authority accordingly. Motion, Sister Cotter be released from acting as Trea. Of Unity church (on/or?) her paying to the church the sum of $7.25

Oct 1891

Wednesday

Unity Church met Wednesday after the 2 Sunday in October 1891.

Pursuant to adjournment, After devine servises a presbytery were organized composed as follows

Elders G. T. Mathis, W. B. Rhodes and W. B. Russell and deacons F.M. Hall, Joseph Mezoe and W.C. Craddock.

     Elder G. T. Mathis was chosen moderator and deacon W. C. Craddock clerk. The following (prag?) was agreed on 1st Examination of candidate Bro W. B. Russell, 2 ordaining prayer  Elder W. B. Rhodes. 3  Charge to candidate Elder G. T. Mathis. 4. Charge to church Elder W. B. Russell. After which the presbytery proceeded to examine the candidates and having found them sound in doctrine and capable of filling the respective position, reported the same to church

After hearing said report the church ordained the presbytery to proceed and ordain Bro Marion Russell to the ministry and A. J. Southers to the office of deacon.

  The presbytery did proceed and ordain Bro. Marion Russell and A. J. Southers to the respective offices aforesaid by prayer and the laying on of hands.

The church and presbytery gave the (illegible) of fellowship to the candidates, and presbytery was dismissed by W. B. Rhodes
