The town of Waxhaw is located in the Southwest portion of Union County in Jackson Township. It was named for the Waxhaw Indian tribe that once inhabited the area. The town developed about midway between the center of The Old Waxhaws Settlement and its NW fringe where Andrew Jackson, Sr. settled his family in the mid-1700's. The Town of Waxhaw was incorporated in 1889, shortly after construction of the first railroad was commenced in 1887. The first depot was built in 1888, and Waxhaw soon became an important stop along the rails due to the shipping of agricultural products. The railroad tracks still run through the center of town, just across the street from the above buildings. The town retains much of its original character, and is now a thriving antique and historical center, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  See another old view of Waxhaw here.
