  Jimmie and his sister Kelly died from eating rat poison. The

  doctors thought the children climbed up and got it off a shelf

  thinking it was candy. Kelly died at home on Saturday and

  Jimmie died at the Monroe hospital about the same time on

  Sunday morning. (Per the Monroe Journal April 25, 1939)

   CONFEDERATE NAVY CO E 3RD NAVAL BATTALION

  Son of William D. and Phoebe Helms Medlin, he was born

  in 1845 and died from gangrene in his left leg on Feb 19, 1931.

  He served in the navy two years on the CSS Savannah and the

  CSS Isodiga. He served in defense of Savannah, Georgia until

  the Union forces took the Savannah River at which time he

  transferred to the Army and was captured and taken prisoner.

  After the war ended he returned to Union County, married and

  had a family.
