Site
of Union Church organized in 1832 and in 1852 |

was renamed Bethlehem. It was the
beginning of |
|
|
what
is now Bethlehem Presbyterian Church on |
|
|
Hwy
601 North in Fairview NC. Many of the church |
|
|
records
were lost when Elder John Long tried to |
|
|
cross
Duck Creek in his buggy and was swept away |
|
|
by high waters. Elder Rex Hovey shared
this |
|
|
information
with me during my visit to the cemetery |
|
|
in September 2007. The cemetery is
surrounded by |
|
|
a rock wall and is very well maintained. I
am told |
|
|
this
is the oldest cemetery in Union County with the |
|
|
earliest burial being Lydia
Long in 1810. |
