Hamilton-Griffin Family Cemetery

Marshville Township, Union County, North Carolina

This cemetery is located off of Ansonville Road, ½ mile east of Marshville-New Salem Road. These are graves of William Alexander Hamilton and his family. There are also 11 graves with stone markers with no writing. I have been told that these are the graves of some of William Hamilton’s slaves.  *Last 4 names below are additional stones Larry found while doing the cleanup. Notes:

1.     Thomas Griffin was the father of Sarah Griffin Hamilton, wife of William Hamilton.

2.     Alexander, Mary J., and John C. were children of William and Sarah Hamilton.

3.     James Washington Hamilton, Griffin Stanley Hamilton, Thomas Moore Hamilton and W.S. or William Sanders Hamilton were sons of William and Sarah Hamilton.

4.     Elizabeth Horn was James Hamilton’s wife, Louisa Marsh was Griffin Hamilton’s wife.

5.     Mrs. M.J. Hamilton is Martha Broadaway Hamilton, wife of William Sanders Hamilton

6.     Martha Esgar Yarbrough was probably the daughter of Sarah Lasinday Hamilton and Green William Morgan Yarborough. Sarah L. was the daughter of William and Sarah Hamilton.

7.     William Hamilton was the 3^rd Great Grandfather of Larry Hamilton.

8.     Griffin Stanley Hamilton was the 2^nd Great Grandfather of Larry Hamilton.
