James Carson Caudle and Sarah Ellen Phifer. James Carson is the son of William Harrison Caudle (Richard's son and brother to Edmund Caudle). Sarah Ellen Phifer is the daughter of Cornelius Ramsey Phifer and Margaret E. Griffin. Cornelius (Dock) is the son of Milas R. Phifer and Penelope Caudle (daughter of Absalom's son Jesse and his wife Abigail).

James C. Caudle was born on 3/1/1872 and died on 11/7/1959. He married Sarah Ellen Phifer on 7/17/1895. Sarah Ellen Phifer was born on 1/18/1877 and died on 4/25/1961. Both are buried in the Caudle-Covington Cemetery on Peachland/Polkton Road, Anson County, NC.

To the best of my knowledge, James Carson lived in Richard Caudle's home place. Following the trail of census reports, in 1870, I find Richard's two sons, John C. and William Harrison living with their widowed mother, Catherine, and William Harrison's wife, Sarah Rosa, and daughter, Margaret Ann. By the 1880 census, Catherine has died and John C. has married and moved to Burnsville. William Harrison is listed with his wife Sarah and their four children. The old home place burned in 1934 while James Carson and his family were living there. They rebuilt the house visible in the background of the photo of James Carson & Sarah Ellen Caudle.
