Susan Phillips Bounds

Although her connection to Anson County, N.C. is slightly distant,
I've included her photo here anyway because it is so interesting!

Susan Phillips was born about 1836 in Mississippi. She is said to have been Native American. She was married before 1858 to George W. Bounds who was born abt 1828 in Richmond Co, NC and died 1861 in Tennessee during the Civil War. He was in the 48th Regiment Mississippi Infantry, 5th Regiment Mississippi Infantry, and the 3rd Regiment Mississippi Infantry. He was the son of James Bounds and Johanna Diggs of NC. Johanna Diggs was born about 1800 in Anson Co, NC, the daughter of Marshall M. Diggs and Sarah Briley. The last record I have found of Susan Phillips Bounds was on the 1880 census in Calhoun Co, MS when she was living with daughter Julia Florence Bounds and son-in-law Walter Cook.
