TWO old photographs of PATTERSON R. CADLE. The first one shown is a CDV and is identified as “GRANDPA CADLE”. The photographer was H. C. Lesher, Lee’s Summit, Missouri. There’s glue residue on the backing, and the front has some wear, tear and stains. Shows a man probably in his 50’s-60’s, so I’m guessing the photo was taken in the 1870’s or so.
The other photo is a cabinet card or a card mounted photo, I’m guessing it’s from around 1900 or so. It shows a much older man, identified on the back as: “PATTERSON R. CADLE 1816 1908”. He appears to be in his 80’s here. He is holding a cane in his left hand and in his right hand he’s holding a folded document with the word “GRANT” on the front. Was this possibly his land grant?
Who was this man? Here’s some information about him that I’ve gleaned from various resources. I have not verified any of the following information, so please check it out yourself before accepting it all as factual. Patterson R. Cadle was born at Powell’s Valley, Claiborne County, Tennessee on Nov 29, 1816, and died Jan 21, 1908 in Grants City, Worth County, Missouri. He was the son of DAVID L. CADLE and wife ESTHER LYNCH (d/o Solomon Lynch of Buncombe Co, NC). Patterson married 1st to ANN KINCADE on Sep 14, 1845 in Jackson Co, MO, and 2nd to NANCY ANN (PACKER) [BROCE/GRACE/GROCE] on Feb 4, 1866 in Worth Co, MO. He served as County Clerk and Justice of the Peace in Gentry Co., MO, and later became County Clerk in Worth Co, MO. He’s found on the 1850 Census of Gentry Co, MO (as “Patison” Cadle”) and on the 1860 Census there (as “Padison” Cadle). In 1861, Worth County was formed from Gentry Co, so he appears in the Worth Co. Census in 1870. He is shown on the 1900 Census in Allen Township, Worth Co, MO as a farmer with wife NANCY A. and a couple of GRACE nieces and nephews. Seems to have been an interesting fellow.
