One Dead and One Seriously Injured From Auto Crash

Hobert Mullins, 21, is dead and D. E. Oliver is in a serious condition at Stump Hospital as the result of an automobile accident about three miles from Brownwood on Highway 10 at 1:30 o’clock this morning. The wreck occurred about one mile east of Early High School as the two were returning from Fort Worth.

The victims were discovered by a passing motorist who came to town and called a White & London ambulance. Other automobiles had failed to stop. Mullins died about five minutes after reaching the hospital.

Mullins, whose home was in Roswell, New Mexico, was an employee of Stilwell Service Station No. 3 and had been connected with Stilwell for some time. His parents were notified of his death this morning. He was injured internally and his skull was fractured when he was thrown from the car down a grade and almost under a bridge.

Oliver, garageman in the Broad & Davis Storage Company, Baker at Hawkins Street, suffered a badly crushed chest and cuts and bruises about the head. Dr. H. L. Locker, attending physician, said his condition was serious.

The two were returning from the Fat Stock Show at Fort Worth and Oliver, driver of the car, told the doctor this morning that he met a truck whose lights blinded him and he hit the concrete rail of a bridge. He said he did not see the rail until too late to miss it at the 45 mile per hour rate he was driving. The driver of the truck, east bound, did not stop.

Mr. Oliver has been a Brownwood citizen for many years, being in the garage and repair business. He lives at the corner of Thirteenth Street and Avenue L.

The car in which the two men were riding was completely wrecked.
