Sources and Additional Information:
Hayrel was born in Carolan, Arkansas July 21, 1914, the first child of Lester and Willie Mullins. He and his sister Mazel started to school at the same time in the Carolan School. Hayrel was 20 in the fall of 1934 when he moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma where his Uncle Delmar and Aunt Josie Storts and Uncle Hyrum and Aunt Nellie Lacy lived. He met Elizabeth Creekmore and they married November 11, 1935.
For a short period he and Elizabeth moved to Golden City, Arkansas where his parents were living. In the fall of 1936 they moved with his parents to Eastern Arkansas where they worked in the cotton field. Before the end of the 1937 harvest, Hayrel and Elizabeth moved back to Broken Arrow.
Hayrel had different jobs. He worked on a dairy, delivered ice, and two different times owned gas stations that sold grocery supplies. He worked at John Zink as a sheet metal worker and McDonnell Douglas, an airplane manufacturer company. After leaving McDonnell Douglas, Hayrel started fixing up cars for resale, and then started buying and selling at auctions. He did repair work and was a salesman at Mullins Furniture.
When Hayrel first moved to Broken Arrow, he was very active in his church, Broken Arrow Assembly of God. He was a teacher, C. A. (youth) president, Sunday School superintendent, and sang in a quartet. Hayrel's funeral was at this church after his death May 11, 1990.
