Ancient Karr Name
By Clarence E Karr
I found a book written by an Englishman
in the 1880's about the Karr name. His researched showed that Karr, Kerr, Carr,
and other variations originated from the name Ker.
Ker was one of the French Normans that invaded England. After the war he settled
in southern Scotland. His decedents settled in Scotland, England, and Ireland.
Generally the name Kerr is from England, Carr from Scotland, and Karr from Ireland.
The reason for the many spellings was in the olden day's most people could not
read or write, and when asked their name they did not know how to spell it so the
person asking would write it down by the sound. Each having their own interpation.
