Summary:
The Schwartz surname is my husband's lineage. The newest leads
on this family came when I received an obit for Henry Joseph Schwartz October 25, 1881
in E. St. Louis, IL. Of course it also leads to more
questions. For example, the obit lists his burial at a Ritz
Cemetery. I have searched high and low and even contacted the
funeral home that handled the arrangements and they can't even tell me
where it is located. My only hope is in the death certificate
which I still have to send for. The other lead was found in the
1900 census. There I found Henry's father, William Joseph
Schwartz b. Oct. 1837 in Berlin, Germany and wife Annie b. 1841 in
Baden. According to the census, Wm. immigrated to the US in
1856, while Annie did so in 1859. There was nothing written in
the columns for naturalization, but more research is needed to
determine if they were naturalized or not.
