Death of an old inhabitant - On Febuary 24th, a very old inhabitant in the person of Mr William Blatchford, mason, Old Quakers' Yard, passed away at the advanced age of 80 years, after a series of paralytic seizures. Deceased was widely known and respected, having lived in the district close on 50 years. He was a link with the past, having worked as a mason on the Maesycwmmer Viaduct, the Viaduct near Treharris Ocean Colliery. and the Quakers Yard Viaduct and Tunnel. He also worked on the Taf viaduct over the river Taf.He was a familiar figure and will be greatly missed. The funeral took place on Wednesday Week, the place of internment being Llanfabon church. The coffin which had two wreaths upon it was followed by the following mourners:- Mr George Blatchford (son), Mrs T Davies (daughter), Mr and Mrs James Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law) Mr and Mrs William Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law) and Mr and Mrs Edward Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Robert Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Alfred Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs John Blatchford (son and daughter-in-law). Mrs George Blatchford was absent through ilness. The familes of the above were also present, as well as Mr James Blatchford, Cardiff (cousin), Mr and Mrs William Davies, Bargoed (cousin); and a large attendance of the general public. The Rev. D Mathews,St Cynons and the Rev T.E.Williams, Berthlwyd, officiated at the house, and the vicar, The Rev W Davies assisted by the Rev D nicholas at the church and graveside. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Mr W.Williams, Quakers Yard.
