The Plott Family

Many if not all of the Plotts of Haywood County are descended from Johannes Plott (c1733-????). According to W. C. Allen in The Annals of Haywood County Johannes was born in Heidelberg, Germany. He left there as a sixteen year old with an older brother. They embarked on a ship from Rotterdam, Holland. The older brother died and was buried at sea. Johannes landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1750. From there he travelled to New Bern, North Carolina, then later to Cabarrus County, NC. There he married and raised three sons. One of the sons, Henry Plott, married, moved to Haywood County and became the progenitor of the Plotts of Haywood County.
