The McCracken Family

Many of the McCrackens of Haywood County are descended from Joseph Cass McCracken (1776-1848). Joseph is said to be the son of David McCracken of Habersham County, Georgia. In The Annals of Haywood County, W. C. Allen states that in 1800, Joseph came to what is now Haywood County with his wife Sarah Vaughn McCracken and young daughter. He bought a tract of land on Bald Creek in Upper Crabtree for $50.
