Ashland Cemetery
Ashland Cemetery historical marker

John Lyle, Died Aug. 16, 1857

John Lyle was the oldest of the children of James Lyle and Hannah Crawford.
Supposedly his stone also read "aged 60 years."

Though the cemetery is in lovely condition, the stones are not and in the back corner we found a large pile of broken stones. John's brother Charles and his wife Sarah were probably also buried here, but they may not have had markers.

marker of John W. Lyle, son of Charles & Sarah

The first child of Charles and Sarah Lyle to die in Iowa must have been John W. Lyle

marker of Martha L. Lyle, daughter of Charles & Sarah

The first child of Charles and Sarah Lyle born in Iowa, Martha barely survived three years.

marker of Charly E. Lyle, son of James O.

Charles's son James O. Lyle also lost a young child in Ashland, Iowa
