John Lyle purchased the 40 acres in Keokuk Township, Wapello County, Iowa, in 1857 (see John's deed), but died later that year. His heirs were his six siblings or their estates. Probate of John's estate was completed in 1864 and the heirs began sales of their shares in 1865.

1. His brother William in Sullivan County, Missouri, sold his share on 13 Jan 1865, the deed recorded in Wapello County Deed Book 1, pp. 280-1. (see William's deed).
2. His brother Charles, with whom John had been living, died the next year, his estate apparently passing to his wife Sarah. Sarah died in 1859 supposedly leaving a will (which is not on record) which made her daughter, Sarah Ann Judson Lyle as her heir. Thus Charles's share was sold by the child's guardian, her older sister Mary Susan Turner on 13 Jan 1865 and recorded in Book 1, pp. 281-2. (see Sarah Ann's deed).
3. Brother James and sister Elizabeth Hall, both living in Jefferson County, Indiana, together sold their shares on 12 Sep 1867, the deed recorded in Wapello County Deed Book 4, p. 132. (see James and Elizabeth's deed).
4. Samuel C. Lyle, his brother who lived in Meigs County, Ohio, sold his share on 7 Nov 1869 as recorded in Wapello County Deed Book 6, p. 33. (see Samuel's deed).
5. The sixth share belonging to the heirs of his brother Francis Wayne Lyle had disputes but never identified the rightful owner. It suffered tax liens, a failed partition case, and finally went in a sheriff's sale to Charles Buchanan along with the five-sixths owned by the heirs of Charles Dudley. By 1872 Jerome Wiley had owned those five-sixths shares which he sold to James Wiley Jr. who then assigned the property to Charles Dudley. In the 1908 plat map, the owner is shown to be Wesley A. Buchanan. (see tax deed and sheriff's sale deed)
