Charles D. PETERS, son of John D. and Wanda (Albertson) PETERS, was born April 13, 1921, at Bentonville, Arkansas.
As a child he came to Osawatomie, Kansas, with his family, where he attended the Osawatomie schools.
He served in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the World War II Victory Medal, the Philippine Independence Ribbon, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal for overseas duty.
On May 23, 1940, in Ottawa, he was married to Nadene SEYMOUR. Following their marriage, they lived in the Ottawa area, and since 1956 have lived in their present home at 623 South Cedar Street.
He was employed by Unified School District 290 as Custodian at Garfield School from 1956 to 1979. He then transferred to East Central Vocational Cooperative and was employed until May of 1983, when he retired due to ill health.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ottawa and Veterans or Foreign Wars. Ottawa Post No. 5901.
Charles is survived by his wife, Nadene, of the home; two daughters, Kay TOWNER, and husband Mike, of Ottawa, and Jan REEVES of Lawrence, Kansas; one son, Don PETERS, and wife, Jeanne, of Pratt, Kansas; five grandchildren, Kim and Dave TOWNER, Jeff and Michelle PETERS, and Audra REEVES; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Jack PETERS, and one sister, Irene MOONEY.
Charles passed away May 5, 1984, in Ransom Memorial Hospital, Ottawa, at the age of 63 years, after an extended illness.
He was a devoted family man who enjoyed being outdoors with his family to hunt, and especially, to fish from his pontoon boat. His grandchildren will always remember him as their favorite story-teller.
A kindly, respected man, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
