Individual Note:
     Postings on Rootsweb.com indicate that Elias married Clarissa Jane Wismer on Dec 12 or Dec 13 in 1880. However, Elias was reported as 22, single and living with his parents in Whitchurch Twp. April 1881. The transcriber for the Church of LDS recorded him as Alias (sic) Degeer. His wife to be was reported as Jane Wismer, 19, single and working as a servant in the home of Thomas EMPRINGHAM in Markham Twp. in April 1881.

As a result, it appears that Elias and Clarissa Jane were married some time after the 1881 cenus was taken.

In the 1891 census returns for Whitchurch Twp. the family was reported as follows:

- DEGEER, Elias, m, 33, married, farmer
- DEGEER, Jane, f, 27, married, wife
- DEGEER, George m, 8, son
- DEGEER Annie, f, 7, dtr
- DEGEER, Zella,f, 4, dtr
- DEGEER, Earnest H., m, 2, son

In the 1901 census returns the family was living on a 25 acre farm located on Lot 18, Concession 9 in Whitchurch Twp. Elias's d.o.b. was reported as Feb. 10, 1859 and his age was recorded as 42.

In 1901 Elias's parents (John and Margaret DeGeer) and his brother (Michael DeGeer) also lived nearby on properties located within Lot 18, Concession 9 in Whitchurch Twp.
