James W. Sabias

        James W. Sabias, 74, of Bay City, passed away early Sunday morning, April 21, 2002, at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland.
        He was born on March 3, 1928, in Bay City, and had resided here all of his life. He attended the Christian Celebration Center Church in Midland, retired from General Motors Co. -- Grey Iron Foundry in 1988 and served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
        James is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine Johnson, whom he married on June 12, 1948, in Midland; one daughter, Cheryl Sabias of Bay City; one brother and sister in-law, Jerome and Helen Sabias of Bay City; and two sisters, Dorothy Loehne of Melbourne, Fla. and Wanda Meerdo of Essexville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Joseph Sabias.
        Funeral and committal services will take place Wednesday, April 24, 2002, 11 a.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc., 201 W. Midland St., Bay City. Pastor Mitzi Nimmo will officiate, with private internment in Floral Gardens Cemetery.
        Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

GROUT PIONEER IS BURIED SUNDAY

        Elmer E. Gedney, 75 died Wednesday, June 13, after an illness of several years which confined him to his bed for the past 10 months. The funeral service was held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Assembly of God church, and was conducted by Rev. James A. Davis. Interment was in Highland cemeter
        Born October 30, 1869 in St. Clair, Michigan, he came to Gladwin county with his parents in 1872 by way of a scow up the river from Midland and settled on a farm in Grout township, which he helped to clear and where he remained throughout his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Grace Haines of Gladwin in 1897. He held the offices of supervisor and treasurer of the township for a period of years.
        He is survived by his wife; two sons, Howard and Elwood of Gladwin; a daughter, Helen of Midland; and a brother, John Gedney, of Gladwin.

Services Tuesday for Mrs. Gedney

        Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Gedney, 87, of Grout, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Gladwin Assembly of God Church with the pastor, Rev. Truman S. Lowel, officiating.
        Mrs. Gedney passed away Saturday morning at the home of her son, Elwood Gedney, in Grout.
        The former Miss Grace Haines, she was born January 14, 1867, in Gratiot County.
        Coming to Gladwin county with her parents when a child of seven she has resided in Grout township for the past 80 years.
        In 1897 she was married to Elmer Gedney who passed away in 1945.
        Surviving are two sons, Howard and Elwood of Grout; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Johnson of Midland; 16 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Mills, Mrs. Lavina Ballard and Mrs. Olive Wylie all of Grout.
        Interment was made in Highland cemetery in Gladwin.
