Phyllis (DeGeer) Foster Rice
Phyllis (DeGeer) Foster Rice, 81, of Midland, died at the MidMichigan Medical Center on Thursday, April 25, 2002.
Phyllis married Kent H. Rice on March 12, 1999 at the First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Kent; one son, Dennis (Pat) Athey of Beaverton; stepson, Douglas K. Rice of Metamora; grandchildren, Jon D. and Susan L. Athey; sisters, Fern Pearson of Midland, Marjorie Bradley of Midland and Patricia Petrie of Frankfurt. She was predeceased by a brother, James DeGeer.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside service will be conducted at a later date at the Midland City Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to the First United Methodist Church.
The Wilson Miller Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral direction.

Shows Francis Johnson at age 17 as a lodger in the home of James Strong and that he worked for the local sugar factory. Possibility that Virgil Brown (the other lodger) was a friend of Francis (same age, both come from OH). They may have both come to St. Louis seeking work.

Obituary of Francis Leo Johnson from the Midland Daily News (Midland, MI), December 18, 1978
Mr. Johnson
Francis L. Johnson, 76, of Midland, died in his home early Sunday after a lengthy illness. He was born June 12, 1902, in Van Wert, Ohio, and moved to Gladwin as a child.
He attended schools in Gladwin. He married Helen Gedney in July 1925. She survives. Mr. Johnson came to Midland in 1929 and worked at the electric shop of the Dow Chemical Company for 35 years, retiring in 1964 as a field maintenance foreman.
He was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church and formerly served on the church board. He was active in the Dow Retirees Club.
Mr. Johnson leaves sons Richard and Donald Johnson, both of Midland; and daughters Mrs. James (Geraldine) Sabias of Bay City and Mrs. Dennis (Janet) Athey of Midland.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Stanley Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Midland Memorial Gardens cemetery.
Friends may call between 3 and 9 p.m. today in the Ware Smith funeral home, and them at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Helen M. Johnson, 80, 420 E. Ashman, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 1985, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born June 1, 1905, in Gladwin where she attended schools. The former Helen M. Gedney married Francis L. Johnson, July 26, 1925; he died in 1978. They lived in Midland since 1929. She was a charter member of the Midland Assembly of God. She leaves sons, Richard L. Johnson and Donald L. Johnson, both of Midland; daughters, Geraldine Sabias of Bay City and Janet Athey of Midland; a brother, Elwood Gedney of Gladwin; five grandchildren and one great grandson. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ware-Smith-Woolever & Co. Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doyle Long and the Rev. Melvin Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Midland Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 this evening. Memorials are suggested to the Midland Assembly of God.
