JOHNSON, CUPP, CLOTIAUX and PLUMMER FAMILY HISTORY
Welcome to my web site! Many hours of work have been put into the research and documentation of these families. I hope you will benefit from the information I present here and forgive any errors. Please contact me with any correction that may need to be made or any additional information you wish to share with our family and friends. My thanks to all the many people who helped me with this project.
JOHNSON FAMILY, my mom's family, starts with Moses born in 1765, I beleive in Kentucky. Mose, his wife Nancy and several of his children arrived in Louisiana around 1803. They baptized the first five of their children at the Catholic Church in St. Landry Parish. The name was spelled Jeansonne and Johnson and several other ways. Most of the Johnson family settled in the Vernon Parish area and some are still living there today. Some came to Texas around Trinity County. Our family links to the Bailey, Bass, Brister, Calhoun, Calcote, Doyle, James, Gill, Howard, Perkins, Varner, White, Wisby, Goins, Ashworth, Thompson, Deason, Strother and most families in the area.
CUPP FAMILY, my father's family, starts with Michael, born 1768 in Georgia. He traveled to Mississippi, where his children were born and some stayed. He then moved on to Alabama and some of his children stayed there to live. Some moved on to Louisiana and settled in the Winn Parish and Rapides Parish area. Then one branch moved to Texas and settled in Houston County. The family was hard to trace because of the spelling of the name and sometimes the hand writting. The name has been found as Cup, Cupp, Culp and even Cuff. Our family links to the White, Craig, Thornhill, Roberts, Odoms, Ashley, Paul, Brossett, McIlwain, and lots more in Rapides Parish.
CLOTIAUX FAMILY, my children's family, starts with Vincent born 1730 in La Fresnais, France. The first of the family to travel to the USA was Francois Mathurin born November 16, 1842. He emigrated to New York on November 14, 1854 on the ship "Galliot Francais" at the age of 14 years. Extant family letters from his mother in France, ask her son why he left his family and home and why he had not said where he was. It is still a mystery today. Francois settled in Lafayette Parish between Youngsville and Maurice, where on July 9, 1860, he married Marie Seraphine Duhon, who was 17 years old at the time. The couple lived there for several years and raised a family of three daughters and nine sons. Slowly the families began migration into Vermilion Parish and the small village of Kaplan. One branch of the family relocated to the Texas and settled in Galveston, Houston, and even Austin.
PLUMMER FAMILY, my husband's family, starts with Francis PLUMER in England to Newbury, Massachusetts. Several Plummer families settled in Massachusetts and Maine area, some came to Louisiana and on to Texas. Most have been seafarers, Navy & Marines, Ship Captains, Fishermen and Barge Pilots. Some were Lighthouse Keepers, some even awarded Gold Metals by U.S. Congress for their bravery during the 1900 storm in Galveston and one was the mayor of Beaumont Texas.
