GERTRUDE VANHOOSE 1896-1959 Mrs. Gertrude Van Hoose, 62, wife of Fred Van Hoose of Kerz, died in a local hospital Thursday, May 28, at 1:45 p.m., following an illness of four months. The daughter of Isaac H. and Mary Jane Murphy Short, she was born in this county August 11, 1896, and had lived in the Kerz community most of her life. Survivors include besides her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Clyde McKenzie and Mrs. Edgel Hackney, both of Sitka; Mrs. Reba Castle, Nippa; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Preston, Meally, and Mrs. Otto Green, Stambaugh. Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, May 31, from the Freewill Baptist Church at Sitka with Scott Castle, Millard Van Hoose and C. C. Hall as officiating ministers. Music was by the Toms Creek Quartet. Burial was in the Van Hoose Cemetery at Nippa. Paintsville Herald Wednesday 3 June 1959
