JAMES HOBART STAMBAUGH

James Hobart Stambaugh was born at Stambaugh, Ky., July 5, 1897,
the son of Lafayette and Sarah Murphy Stambaugh both of whom died
at an early age. He departed this life on July 27, 1963, at the
age of 66 years and 22 days. He was married to Alice Burchett,
July 7, 1917, and to this union were born nine children, five
sons, James Hobart, Jr., Cambridge, Ohio; Lafe, Belleville,
Michigan; Clem, Auxier; Charles, U. S. Army, Germany; Alvin, at
home; four daughters, Jalema Teater, Lexington; Murvel Crum,
Stambaugh; Virginia Lewis, Baltimore, Md.; Janice Belhasen,
Stambaugh. He was the first of his family to be called home and is
also survived by fourteen grandchildren; one brother, Floyd
Stambaugh, Nippa; three sisters, Della Van Hoose, Louisville; May
Daniels, Ashland; Eunice Daniels, Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded
in death by a brother, Holbrook Stambaugh. Both the Stambaugh and
and Murphy families were early settlers in this area and had large
families, were of hardy stock, a nd his surviving relatives are
numerous. Brother Hobart was baptized into Christ August 11, 1929,
and since that time has been a faithful worker for the church, a
leader in his community with always a kind word and Christian
advice for all with whom he came in contact, always admonishing
and advising his children and family in Christian principles and
the way to a good life. He was a coal miner and farmer for many
years. A patient and gentle man, he had been in ill health for
several years. The latchstring was always open at his home to his
family, friends and wayfarers, and he will be sadly missed by his
neighbors and entire community, as well as his family. He passed
on to his reward with abiding faith, he had lived with and the
appropriate words in short to describe him are "He was a good
man."
