WAYNE RUCKER 1904-1948 Wayne Rucker Killed In Slate Fall Wayne Rucker, 43, well-known Van Lear man, was killed instantly in a slate fall in a Van Lear mine Wednesday morning. He and two other men were operating a coal loading machine when a piece of slate about six or eight-feet wide suddenly fell and struck him. The other two men, who were on the opposite side, escaped injury by jumping into a breakthrough. Mr. Rucker is survived by his wife, Agnes Jasper Rucker, and six children. Surviving also are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Rucker of Van Lear, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, but definite arrangements are not complete at this time. OBITUARY-2 Funeral Services for Wayne Rucker, Age 43, Van Lear, was held at his home Sunday, August 29, at 2 p.m. Rev. Leonard Bowling, Oak Hill, Ohio conducted the services. The decensed was killed instantly in a mine accident August 25 at the Van Lear Mines where he had been employed for the past 13 years. He had been active in church work since 1937 at the Little Mission Sunday School as Superintendent, Treasurer, and Instructor of the Bible Class. Surviving are his wife, Agnes, and six children, Ruth Ann, Nancy Elizabeth, Sarah Margaret, Wayne, Jr., Paul Edward, and Helen Francis, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Rucker, six brothers, Glen Hitchins, Erris, Hatcher, West Virginia, Harold, Dayton, Ohio, Russell of this city, Stanley and Earl, San Bernardino, Calif.; and three sisters: Mrs. J. E. Stapleton, Dayton, O., Mrs. Jack Fraley, and Naomi of Van Lear. Burial was made in the Wells’ Cemetery, Paintsville, Kentucky. Active pallbearers were: Frank Clifton, George Clifton, Lawrence Meddings, Johnny Castle, Charles Brickey and John Marshell. Honorary pallbearers were: Aud Williamson, Clyde O’Bryan, Bruce Phelps, Eugene Hyden, Reverands D. C. Hughes, Horton Davis, John Dee Bailey, Kenneth Fleming, Eddie Burnem, Clifton DeBoard.
