PAYNE RICE 1916-1989 Payne Rice, 73, died Saturday, September 30, 1989 in Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Mr. Rice was born January 12, 1916 in Magoffin County, the son of Fred and Georgeann Pendleton Rice. He was a self employed general contractor and a member of the Salyersville Masonic Lodge # 769 F & Am. Surviving are his wife, Verlillie Joseph Rice; four sons James Fred Rice, Payne Rice Jr., Phillip Rice and Kevin Rice, all of Oil Springs; two stepsons, Roger Joseph of River, and Robin Joseph, of Lowmansville; six daughters, Edna Mae Reed, of Paintsville, Joyce Ann Reed, of Salyersville, Maxine Yates, Debbie Kennard , and Jodie Music, all of Oil Springs, and Georgia Ann Music, of Denver; one stepdaughter, Terry Cantrell, of Oil Springs; three brothers, Earl Rice and Hershell Rice, both of Oil Springs, and Arnold Rice, of Salyersville; one half brother, Roosevelt Preston, of Oil Springs; and two sisters, Allie Powers and Alka Whitt, both of Paintsville. Funeral services were held Monday, October 2, in Pigeon Enterprise Baptist Church, with Revs. Wayne Meade and Dick Vanhoose officiating. Burial was in Payne Rice Family Cemetery at Oil Springs, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Steve Cantrell, Jim Hackworth, Ova Hall, Fred Rice Jr. Charles Lemaster, Wilbur H. Skaggs, Odell Pyles and Ernest Perkins. Submitted By: Dianna Jaynes
