C.C. "Lum" PRICE SERVICES SATURDAY FOR AGED RESIDENT C.C. (Lum) Price, 79, died suddenly Wednesday about 4:15 p.m. at his home on Main Street of a heart attack. He had been in ill health for several years but his death came unexpectedly. He was widely known in Eastern Kentucky and was a member of one of Johnson County's oldest and best-known families. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church.
Mr. Price spent the early part of his life in the operation of steamboats and flatboats on the Big Sandy River. Among the last of the rivermen in the county engaged in the transporting of merchandise and passengers, he enjoyed telling of the many interesting incidents of that early era. He had a generous and benevolent nature that endeared him to all who knew him. Born in Johnson County, May 11, 1872, he was the son of C.C. and Sarah Meek Price. He was married early in life to Miss Addie Davis who preceded him in death. To this union were born three children, one son and one daughter who died in infancy and Robert Price of the Davis Branch section. Also surviving are his wife of a later marriage, Mrs. Amanda Kegley Price, and one brother, John Price of Thelma. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. Scott Castle, Rev. Claude Preston and Rev. C.C. Hall. Burial will be made in the family cemetery on Davis Branch under the direction Of the Jones Funeral home. PAINTSVILLE HERALD THURSDAY 9-20-1951
