Alta Lee VanHoose Preston, 77, former Thealka resident, died June
15, 1996 at Livingston Regional Hospital in Livingston, Tennessee.
  
She was born October 29, 1918, in Johnson County, the daughter of
Burns and Bernice Byrd VanHoose.
  
She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she served as
Postmistress in Thealka and was a member of the Freewill Baptist
Church.
  
She is proceded in death by her husband, Ernest Ray Preston, in
1958.
  
She is survived by one daughter, Gwen Stambaugh of Allons,
Tennessee and one grandson.
  
Pallbearers were Joseph Stambaugh, Gary Bowman, Woodrow Wilson,
Bob Minton, Eugene Sturgill and Richard L. Childers.
  
Funeral services were June 17 at the Paintsville Funeral Home
Chapel with Brother Ovie Tinch officiating.
  
Burial took place in Bascomb VanHoose Cemetery.
