JERRY MELVIN MUSIC 1939-1961 JERRY MUSIC KILLED IN AUTO COLLISION Jerry Melvin Music, 21, Hager Hill, was killed instantly Saturday morning when the car he was driving went out of control and smashed into an oncoming vehicle near the city limits south of Prestonsburg. Four persons were injured in the accident, third fatal collision of 1961 in the State Police Pikeville District. They were; Henry Cantrell, 29, and Billie Joe Stambaugh 23, both of Hager Hill, who were riding with Music, and Mr. and Mrs. Astor Meade, Lexington. Stambaugh is listed in serious condition at a Huntington W. Va. Hospital, where doctors at first said his chances of living were doubtful. State Police at Pikeville headquarters said Music's 1961 Chevrolet was rounding a curve at a high rate of speed and went out of control. It swerved into the path of the Meade vehicle, which was traveling toward Prestonsburg from Pikeville on U.S. 23. Music stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. was traveling toward Pikeville. The accident occurred about four miles south of Prestonsburg at 12:45 a.m. Music was dead on arrival at the Prestonsburg General Hospital. The victim was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Music and lived in Johnson County all his life. He is survived by his son, Jerry Michael Music, three brothers, Bill, Melvin, Ky; Eddie, Columbus, Ohio; and Howard, Hager Hill; and one sister, Mrs. Quentin Spradlin, Hager Hill. Last rites were held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the West Van Lear Church of Christ with Cecil Sherman officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery at Hager Hill. Paintsville Herald May 24 1961
