JERRY MUSIC KILLED
IN AUTO COLLISION

Jerry Melvin Music, 21, Hager Hill, was killed instantly Saturday
morning when the car he was driving went out of control and smashed
into an oncoming vehicle near the city limits south of
Prestonsburg.

Four persons were injured in the accident, third fatal collision of
1961 in the State Police Pikeville District. They were; Henry
Cantrell, 29, and Billie Joe Stambaugh 23, both of Hager Hill, who
were riding with Music, and Mr. and Mrs. Astor Meade, Lexington.

Stambaugh is listed in serious condition at a Huntington W. Va.
Hospital, where doctors at first said his chances of living were
doubtful.

State Police at Pikeville headquarters said Music's 1961 Chevrolet
was rounding a curve at a high rate of speed and went out of
control. It swerved into the path of the Meade vehicle, which was
traveling toward Prestonsburg from Pikeville on U.S. 23. Music
stationed at Ft. Bragg, N.C. was traveling toward Pikeville.

The accident occurred about four miles south of Prestonsburg at
12:45 a.m. Music was dead on arrival at the Prestonsburg General
Hospital.

The victim was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Music and lived in
Johnson County all his life. He is survived by his son, Jerry
Michael Music, three brothers, Bill, Melvin, Ky; Eddie, Columbus,
Ohio; and Howard, Hager Hill; and one sister, Mrs. Quentin
Spradlin, Hager Hill.

Last rites were held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the West Van Lear
Church of Christ with Cecil Sherman officiating. Burial followed in
the family cemetery at Hager Hill.
