JAMES STANLEY MEADE Two Johnson County men were killed and two others were injured Friday about 11:00 p.m when their car failed to round a curve and crashed into a concrete bridge one-and-one-half miles south of Louisa on U.S. route 23. James Stanley Meade, 18, son of P. J. Meade and Mrs. Cleo Meade Castle of this county, was pronounced dead on arrival at Louisa General Hospital. A broken neck was given as the cause of death. Howard Lee Riffe, Jr., 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard I. Riffe of an Lear died at 3:25 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W. Va. Skull fractures and internal injuries caused his death. The driver of the car, Robert Williams 27, of Paintsville and Everett Stafford, 17, of Thelma, escaped with slight injuries. Williams did not require hospitalization and Stafford was dismissed from the Louisa hospital after treatment. The four were employed at Dayton, Ohio, and were on their way home for a vacation. It was stated that the car, after striking the railing of a concrete bridge swerved for about 70 feet but did not turn over. An ambulance from the Young funeral Home took the injured to hospitals. Meade was born at Thelma February 2, 1935 and had been in Dayton only a short time where we was employed in the shipping department of the Firgidare Corp. He is survived by his parents and two half sisters, Dianna Sue Castle, and Debra Lou Castle, both of West Van Lear. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. August 3, at the Freewell Baptist Church on Third Street by Reverend C. C. Hall. Music was by the Thoms Creek Singers. Burial was in the family cemetery at Thelma under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home. Riffe had been a resident of Van Lear his entire life, and was employed as an inspector for the General Motors Corp. in Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving besides his parents are one brother and two sisters Charles Riffe, Mason, Ohio, Mrs. Carl Castle, Dayton, O., and Mrs. Glenn Siler, Paintsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church at Van Lear. Burial will be in the Wells Cemetery, Paintsville, under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home.
