Mary Elizabeth “Lizzie” Castle, 90, of Tutor Key,
died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 in Prestonsburg Health Care Center,
Prestonsburg.

Born Jan. 26, 1913, in Paintsville, she was a daughter of the late
Martin Jesse and Selena VanHoose. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Castle; a
daughter, Bonnie VanHoose; a brother, Dallas VanHoose; and a
sister, Hazel VanHoose.

Survivors include a son, Richard Thomas Castle of Omaha, Neb.; two
daughters, Selena Bell Preston of Frontier, Mich., and Elizabeth
“Penny” Clay of Prestonsburg; a brother, Shaedrick Jesse VanHoose
of Beloit, Wis.; a twin sister, Eldana “Annie” Lyons of Tutor Key;
17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-
grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 5, at George’s Creek United
Baptist Church with Elders Carlos Preston and Douglas Ward
officiating.

Burial was in VanHoose Family Cemetery, Tutor Key, under direction
of Paintsville Funeral Home.
