CARL BURNS 1906-1959 Carl Burns, 53, resident of Nippa, died in a local hospital at 12:15 a.m., Tuesday, July 7, after an illness of several months. A native of Magoffin County he was born March 18, 1906, the son of Elisha and Mary Robinson Burns. He was employed as a miner and was a member of the United Mine Workers. Surviving are his wife, Virgie Bowling Burns; eight sons, Douglas and Ray Burns, both of Columbus, Ohio; Rex Burns, Prestonsburg; Jay Burns, Washburn, Indiana; Carl Thomas, Corbet, Smith and Roy, all at home; two daughters, Mary Lou Williams, Sitka; Magadline Burns, at home; one brother, Edd Burns, Nippa; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Pelphrey, Nippa; Mrs. Dora Castle, Kenton, Ohio. Funeral servives were conducted from the home at 2:30 p.m., Thursday with Claude Preston and Don Fraley as officiating ministers. Burial was in the family cemetery.
