PRENTICE BAYES 1900-1970 Funeral services were held at the Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 31, for former lifetime Oil Springs resident Prentice Bayes, 69. He died January 29 1970 in a local hospital. Burial was at the family cemetery in Oil Springs, under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home. Officiating ministers at the services were Lonza Reed and Bruce Daniel. Bayes was a member of the United Baptist Church. He was born May 16, 1900, as the son of James Jack and Katheryn Fairchild Bayes. Bayes is survived by his wife, Vertrice Cochran Bayes; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Jo Blanton and Miss Katheryn L. Bayes, both of Battle Creek, Michigan; four sons, Arthur Bayes of Jamestown, Ohio, James Bayes of Oil Springs, Glocus Bayes from Hamilton, Ohio and Clyde Bayes of Paintsville. Additional survivors include four sisters, Gina Fairchild of Oil Springs, Julia Slayer of Flat Gap, Minnie Long, from Fairborn, Ohio and Dewey Conley of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; three brothers, John Bayes of Columbus, Ohio, Dora Bayes of Mt. Sterling, Ohio and James M. Bayes of Catlettsburg; 15 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
