JOSEPH WOODROW ALLEN
1916-1981
Joseph Woodrow Allen, 64, died Thursday, January 8, 1981 in Ann Arbor
Medical Center, Ann Arbor, Mich., after an extended illness.
Mr. Allen was born June 1, 1916, in Magoffin County, the son of Sammy and
Susie Salyers Allen.
He was a resident of Paintsville and a retired teacher.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Woodrow Allen, Brunswick, Ohio, and Joseph
Sherman Allen, Texas; two brothers, Sam Allen, Paintsville and Theodore
Allen, Vanceburg, Ky., two sisters Phinett Pinkens, Westland, Mich. and
Rhena Jane Swinney, Greenville, Ky; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 12, at the Preston Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Jones officiating.
Burial was in Wells Cemetery, Paintsville, with Preston Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Doverd Swinney, Bill Swinney, Stuart Gibb,
Marshall Street, Anthony Wayne Allen and John Lewis Allen.
