JAMES ELLIOTT AKERS 1861-1948 Death Takes Elliott Akers Rites Saturday for West Van Lear Man James Elliott Akers, 86, well-known Johnson County citizen, died Thursday, May 27, in St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, following a week’s illness. Mr. Akers submitted to a major operation on Wednesday prior to his death. He was born on Miller’s Creek on December 25, 1861, and had resided in this locality his entire life. On June 15, 1892, he was married to Margaret Emily Music and to this union were born nine children, four of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Akers had a most kindly disposition, and he was noted especially for his affection for children. He was a loving and faithful husband and father, a good neighbor and a friend to all. Surviving besides his widow are the following children: Mrs. Ruby Norman, West Van Lear. Frank, West Van Lear, Russell, Mrs. Ernest Meek and Mrs. Dwight Brown of Paintsville. He also leaves five grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one brother, Scobe Akers of Betsy Layne. Funeral services were hold at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the West Van Lear Baptist Church by Rev. Ralph E. Webb. Burial was made to the Hager Hill Cemetery. Paintsville Herald Thursday June 3, 1948
