SERVICES SATURDAY FOR JOHN WARD, 68

John Ward, 68 retired miner, died in a local hospital, Thursday,
November 29, following an brief illness.

The son of the late, Bennie and Mary Jane Mills Ward, he was born
January 31, 1882 in Martin County.

He was a member of the Van Lear Freewill Baptist Church and had been
a resident of Johnson County most of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Booth Ward, and four children, one
daughter, Mrs. Jay Robinson, City, three sons, Marion and James C.
both of Van Lear, and John Jr., Hampton, Va.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Telia Perry, Tacoma, Washington,
Mrs. Levi Blevins, New London, Ohio; one brother, Melvin Ward, Boons
Camp; one half-sister, Mrs. Bruce Ellis and three half-brothers,
George Holly and Carlos Ward all of Omar, W.Va.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1,
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jay Robinson at Davis Branch.

Services were conducted by Rev. Walter Hooper and music was by the
Tom’s Creek Singers.

Burial was in the Keaton Cemetery at Davis Branch under the direction
of the Jones Funeral Home.
