RICHARD VANHOOSE YOUTH OF 19 SHOOTS SELF RICHARD VANHOOSE ACCCIDENTALLY FIRES 22 BULLET THRU BRAIN Richard Vanhoose , 19 years of age, accidentally shot and instantly kiled himself at his home on Sycamore Fork of Toms Creek last Sunday afternoon. Young Vanhoose was pranking with a .22 calibre rifle when the gun was discharged. He had placed a cartiridge in the rifle and the firing pin failed to discharge. It is believed he had broked the gun down and the ejejetor failed to work and the shell stuck. In attempting to eject the shell he jammed the stock of the gun against the ground and the shell was expoloed. The bullet hit the youth in the center of the forehead. Young Vanhoose was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Millard Vanhoose. the father is known as "little" Millard Vanhoose and is emloyed by the North-East Coal Company at Thealka as a miner. Funeral services were held at the home on Sycamore Monday afternoon with burial in the family cemetery on Turner Branch. A number of people from Paintsville and Thealka attended the Funeral and burial. Besides his father and mother, he is survived by four sisters, Edna, Ruth, Emojean, and Irene; also three brothers, Hobart, Mitchell and Paul, all at home. PAINTSVILLE HERALD THURSDAY NOV 17 1938
