HURSHEL VANHOOSE
1907-1998

Hurshel VanHoose, age 91 years, 10 months, and 16 days
departed this life Saturday, December 26, 1998 at the
University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born February 10, 1907 in Johnson County, Kentucky to
the late Millard and Ethel Walker VanHoose.

Hurshel married Blanche Daniels on August 8, 1925.  To this
union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters:
Paul Vencil VanHoose (deceased), Pearlene Stambaugh, Bob
VanHoose, Clotene Conley, M.J. VanHoose, Charles K. VanHoose,
JoAnn Burchett, David L. VanHoose, and Bonita Daniels.
Hurshel's beloved wife, Blanche, preceded him in death on
October 15, 1991.  He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters,
Carma VanHoose Burchett and Alka VanHoose Burchett.

Surviving are also 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren
and 2 nieces, Ellian VanHoose and Loretta Daniel.

Hurshel became a member of the Tom's Creek Freewill Baptist
Church in 1921 and served this church as deacon for more than
50 years.

Hurshel was not only a faithful member of this church, he was
also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-
grandfather and uncle.

Hurshel was also a miner, served as deputy sheriff and a
policeman for the City of Paintsville.

He loved to work with cattle, watch the squirrels play in his
backyard, feed the fish in the ponds on his farm and most of
all loved to garden, sharing his bounty with everyone.  We
feel our loss is truly Heavens gain.
