OSCAR STAPLETON
1887-1958
Oscar Stapleton, 71, retired miner of West Van Lear, died of silkosis
in a local hospital Thursday at 3:55 a.m. after an illnes of eleven
years.
The son of Will and Lydia Craft Stapleton, he was born January 27,
1887, at Kerz. He made his home at West Van Lear for the past twenty
seven years and was a member of the United Baptist Church.
He was married April 7, 1906 at Dingus, Ky., to the former Ella
Keaton, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruby Pack, Thealka; Mrs. Marte
Gambill, West Van Lear; Charlie Stapleton, Harold; Proctor Stapleton,
of this city; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Wilcox Brook- field,Maryland;
nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 10:00 Saturday, October 4, from the Cedar
Grove United Baptist Church at West Van Lear with Winfrey Meek and
John Crum as officiating ministers.
Burial was in the Keaton Cemetery at Davis Branch.
