RUSSELL GAINES RICE 1901-1952 Funeral Services Friday Morning For Gaines Rice
Former Van Lear Man Dies At Martin Hospital Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 p. m. for Russell Gaines Rice, 51, who died in the Beaver Valley Hospital, Martin Ky. Wednesday morning. A former resident of Johnson County, he was born on Hoods Fork in 1901, the son of James A. and Dolly Crislip Rice, members of pioneer families of this section. He was married to Alpha Bowe of Wittensville and to this union were born seven children, six of whom are still living. A miner by occupation since 1917 when he was employed by the Consolidation Coal Company at Van Lear. He remained with this company until 1945 when he accepted employment with the Rice Elkhorn Coal Company at Garrett. Survivors include his wife, his mother and the following children: Mrs. Henry Wells, Odds, Ky.; W. Russell Rice, Whitesburg; Randolph G., and Clarence Darrel Rice of Columbus, Ohio; James Rice, U. S. Air Force, and Bobbie Rice of Garrett, also three brothers, Perry, Barton and James A. Rice, all of Garrett, four sisters, Mrs. Argalas Witten, Wittensville, Mrs. Henderson Terry, Martin, Mrs. Maude Daniels and Mrs. Walter Hitchcock, Garrett, and four grandchildren. Interment will be made in the family cemetery at Wittensville under the direction of the Hall Brothers Funeral Home. Paintsville Herald Thursday 7-24-1952
