Shady Preston, Former Resident, Dies In Lexington
Funeral services were conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m., at the Southside Freewill Baptist Church for Shady K. Preston, 57, who dies in St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 1964, after an illness of several months.
A native of this county, he was born May 29, 1906, a son of the late Bill R. and Della McKenzie Preston.
He was a resident of Irvine and was employed as a carpenter contractor.
His first marriage was to the former Thelma Wheeler, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ava Lee Picklesimer Preston.
Other survivors include a son, Joe Kenneth Preston, Lexington; three daughters, Mrs. Rollen Stratton, Belfry; Joyce and Judy Preston, both of Irvine; four brothers, Leon Preston of this city; Neville Preston, Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif.; Cecil Preston, Kingston, Tenn.; W. R. (Johnnie) Preston, Jr., Irvine. Services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Bill Davidson, and Tommy Reynolds.
Music was by the Southside Trio.
Pallbearers were J. T. Newman, Escom Chandler, Howard J. Vickers, Arnold Phillips, Jack Jenkins and Harold Henry.
Burial was in the Preston family cemetery at Barnetts Creek.
