FOREST B. PRESTON
Forest B. Preston, 81, well known Johnson Countian and father of Mayor Ralph B. Preston, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Friday, January 3, at his home in Hillsboro, Ohio.
A son of the late Lafayette and Melanie VanHoose Preston, Mr. Preston was born at Thelma January 5, 1882. He had resided at Hillsboro for the past seventeen years.
Prior to moving to Ohio, Mr. Preston was active in civic affairs in Paintsville and was influential in the development of programs contributing to the city’s advancement and economic expansion.
Mr. Preston served as a member of the City Board of Paintsville and in 1920-21 acted as chairman of the Board, a position similar to the present office of Mayor.
He was one of Eastern Kentucky’s pioneer coal operators and operated the first coaling station for C & O. engines in Floyd County. For three years Mr. Preston was employed by the State Highway Department as real estate purchasing agent in this district. He founded the Big Sandy Diary, which he operated for approximately twenty-five years.
He was a member of the United Baptist Church at Concord and was affiliated with a number of organizations in the city. He was a member of Paintsville Lodge No. 381.
