BENJAMIN F. CONLEY 1874-1933 Prof. Ben F. Conley, age 59 years, died at his home near Flat Gap, this county, August 17, following a stroke of Apoplexy. Mr. Conley was one of the best known and highly respected educators of Johnson County. He was the father of eleven children. The death of Prof. Conley will not only be regretted by his own immediate family, but by every citizen of Johnson county, as he was one of the county's most popular teachers and has always been in the front ranks in the upbuilding of his community and the county as a whole. He was a strong Christian man and a member of the United Baptist Church for 25 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Flat Gap, and was always found on the right side of every proposition for the betterment of his community. He was a man any community would be proud to claim. Besides his widow he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Haske Dixon, Paintsville; Herachel Conley, Red Bush; Ray, Murl, Hazel, Ruth, Florence, Anna Jewell, Byron and Conrad Conley, all at home; Mrs. Lunda Lyon, of Blaine, Ky. Funeral services were held at the home Friday with Rev. Dennis Williams, Rev. Hood Wallen, and Rev. J. M. Gibson in charge of the services. It is estimated that 400 people attended the funeral and burial, which attests the high esteem in which Prof. Conley was held by his friend and neighbors. Interment took place in the family cemetery near the home. Paintsville Herald Thursday August 24, 1933 Son to-Daniel Jesse Conley & Mary Jane Honaker Conley Husband to-Dora Meade Conley
