Lula Bayes, 90, Glynwood Road, Wapakoneta, died at 4:36 a.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Auglaize Acres.
She was born Jan. 17, 1911, in Riceville, Ky., a daughter of
Benjamin Franklin and Peggy (Risner) May. On May 14, 1927, she
married James Peter Bayes, who died Feb. 27, 1991.
She is survived by three sons, Jack (Patsy) Bayes of Mansfield,
Dennis (Patsy) Bayes of Fort Myers, Fla., and Robert (Connie) Bayes
of Paintsville, Ky.; two daughters, Gladys (Willis) Hughes of Lima
and Louise Jung, Wapakoneta; a son-in-law, David McCool of Delphos;
a daughter- in-law, Jacqueline Bayes of Portsmouth; a sister, Grace
Carpenter of Paintsville, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Bernice May of
Leander, Ky.; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Franklin Bayes; a
daughter, Lorene Bayes McCool; an infant daughter, Peggy Joyce
Bayes; an infant son, Donald Bayes; a brother, Elmer May; a sister,
Josephine Fitspatrick; two half-brothers, Clyde May and Taylor
Sloan and a half-sister, Mary Sloan.
A homemaker, Mrs. Bayes was a member of the United Baptist Church
in Alger. She was an avid quilter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Jones-
Preston Funeral Home in Paintsville, Ky. Burial will follow in the
Bayes Family Cemetery in Swamp Branch, Ky.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral
home in Paintsville, Ky.
Local arrangements are being conducted by the Bayliff & Eley
Funeral home in Wapakoneta.
There will be no local visitation.
