ALKIA BAYES
1903-1971
Alkia Conley Bayes, 69, died in a Gallipolis, Ohio, hospital on March
31 after suffering an extended illness.
The former Johnson Countian was a resident of Catlettsburg for the
last 30 years.
She was born in Oil Springs to the late Ballard and Dove Lemaster
Bailey and was married to James Moody Bayes, who survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Harold Bayes of Catlettsburg and
Alvin Bayes of Ashland; three brothers, Paris and Tom Conley of
Riceville and Frank Conley fo Ashland; four sisters, Mrs. Goldie
Lemasters of Windham, Ohio, Mrs. May Sparks from Lowmansville, Mrs.
Ruie Montgomery of Portsmouth and Mrs. Lucy Patrick of Salyersville.
Four grandchildren also survive.
Services were held April 2 in the Pigeon Free Will Baptist Church,
with Charles Stapleton and Bruce Daniel officiating.
Burial followed in the Bayes Cemetery at Oil Springs, with the
Preston Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
