Vernie Salyers Bartley, 52, died Thursday, July 28, in Paintsville
Hospital.
  
She was born September 10, 1924, in Portsmouth, OH, the daughter of
Armstrong and Lula Pennington Rowland. Mrs. Bartley was a resident of
Ashland, formerly of Sitka, and a member of the Church of God.
  
Surviving are her husband, James Bartley; a son, Charles Ratliff of
Barnetts Creek; two brothers, Creval Rowland of Hager Hill and
William Rowland of Paintsville; and five sisters, Bertie Melvin of
Wabash, IN, Billie Jean Fraley of Clio, MI, Ola Kestner, Magdlene
Cantrell and Margaret Rowland, all of Paintsville.
  
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 31, in the Kerz Enterprise
Baptist Church with Rev. Ellis Hamilton officiating.
  
Burial was in the Jones Cemetery at Sitka with Jones-Preston Funeral
Home handling arrangements.
