JOHN M. SPRADLIN DIED
IN PAINTSVILLE LAST
SATURDAY.

John M. Spradlin, age 82, died at his home in Paintsville last
Saturday, March 23, from complications due to the infirmities
of advanced age.  Mr. Spradlin was well known and respected and
was one of the best citizens of Johnson County.  He had lived
an upright, honorable life and his passing is mourned by a
large number of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Monday afternoon,
with Rev. J. H. Stambaugh and Rev. H. B. Conley in charge of
the services.

Burial was made in the old Huff Cemetery in Bridgford where
other members of the family are buried.

The following obituary was read at the funeral:

John M. Spradlin was born in Floyd County, Ky., August 22,
1852.  He moved to Morgan County when five years of age, and
was raised there.  In September 1875, he joined the church and
in the same year began teaching school and taught school until
1889.

In February, 1877, he was married to Joanna Easterling of
Morgan County and to this union were born five children, Mrs.
H.B. Sherman, Walter Spradlin and Dennis Spradlin of
Paintsville, and Mrs. S. H. McCausland of Point Pleasant, W.
Va.  Also George D. Spradlin, who died October 9, 1920.

On October 30, 1893, he moved to Paintsville.  In 1903 he was
elected as Magistrate in District No. 1 and held the office for
twelve years.  In April 1918, he was admitted to the bar as a
practicing attorney.  He was Clerk of the Johnson Quarterly
Court from 1921 to Januay 1, 1926.
