MISSOURI CATHERINE SPARKS
1874-1964

Mrs. Missouri Catherine Sparks, 90, well-known local resident, died
at her home at Depot Road at 11:10 p.m., Saturday, June 20, after a
five weeks’ illness.

A daughter of the late William and Martha Phillips, she was born in
this county January 19, 1874. She became a member of the United
Baptist Church in 1895, and remained throughout the years a loyal
and devoted member.

She was married September 2, 1891 to John Sparks, who preceded her
in death.

Survivors include three sons, O.B. Sparks, Union, Ohio; Oakley,
J.O., and Chester Sparks all of this city; four daughters, Mrs. Alma
Neeley, Hampton, Va.; Mrs. Mona Roth of this city; Mrs. Myrtle
Buchanon, Newport News, Va.; two brothers, Rev. Sandy and Harry
Phillips, Lucasville, Ohio. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren, 46
great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the United
Baptist Church with Foster Rigsby, Tommy Bailey and O.L. Williams as
officiating ministers.

Burial was in the Sparks Cemetery at Flat Gap.
