John Smith, 68, retired miner of Boons Camp, died in a local hospital at
7:10 p.m., March 21, 1961, following a stroke after an illness of eight
days.

The son of John and Mary Cantrell Smith, he was born at West Liberty
December 25, 1893, and had lived at Boons Camp for the past twenty Years.

He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Patrick Smith, whom he married December 22,
1911, at Inez; two sons, Bill and Kenny Smith, Boons Camp; seven
daughters, Goldia Akers, Estelle Stanford and Myrtle Wright, all of
Sitka; Rachel Webb, Van Lear; Ruth Fairchild, Washington, D.C.; Betty
Smith and Ida Smith of Boons Camp; a sister, Hattie Howard, Portsmouth,
Ky.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, from the Boons
Camp Free Will Baptist Church with Wil
